Crooked teeth after braces....?

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone has had braces before and neglected to ware the retainers/plates after the braces were taken off...? I heard your teeth will go back as crooked - can you straighten your teeth again with the retainers/plates instead of having to get braces again?

Please help! :)

  1. I stopped wearing my retainers after a couple months and my bottom row is crooked now but my top row's fine.

  2. I had braces as a teenager and i failed to wear my retainers for the time prescribed... and yes, my teeth went crooked again, for about 10 years i watched them go from straight, to totally crooked, i finally plucked up the courage to go to the dentist and she said that if i didn't do something about it, they would just keep getting worse. So at 28, i have braces again, but fortunately i have invisalign, they are fantastic, people don't even know i am straightening my teeth and i hardly realise i am wearing them. the whole course is taking me 10 months to complete and i am already past half way and i can see such a difference already.

I am guessing it will depend on how long it has been and how bed your teeth are, but my guess would be if they have moved, you will need braces, try invisalign, they are bit more expensive than metal braces but i thing it is worth it!

  3. Yes, I went back to an orthodontist maybe 8 years after I got my braces off. He made me a special retainer - actually it was called something else I think - but looks sort of like a retainer - that moved my teeth. He adjusted it a couple of times, then when my teeth were straight again I just wore it as a retainer.
