Cross Country Beginner??

So, I am really wanting to join cross country this year at my high school. Practice started yesterday and I got all the paper work today.

The only thing I'm worried about is if I can keep up with all of the other kids. I can run about 1-2 miles, but not much more without, stopping.

So do you think I should go for it? or am I in horrible shape and wont even be able to keep up at all?

  1. GO FOR IT DEFINITLY!!!!!!!!! even if u can't keep up you will get faster and faster if you keep working at it and push yourself to the max! I am a freshman and i'm running jv  I wasn' t very good last year, but this year I've come a long way! Good luck!!!!!

  2. Go for it, I'm starting in September and I know I'm not going to be able to keep up with anyone else.  They will train you, don't worry.

  3. I think you should go for it because it doesnt matter if you can keep up or not. When I started cross country I was in pretty bad shape and couldnt keep up but after a while I got better. You should definately go for it and just do what you can. Just think of how you will feel when your in shape!

  4. GO FOR IT!!!!!  I am in XC rightnow, and i can run about 2.8 miles without stopping.  They train you, so dont worry.  It is a very supportive environment.  Goodluck!

  5. I wouldn't worry about keeping up too much. If you put in the work and effort you should be able to catch up w/ the rest of the group.

My freshman year I was the third slowest guy on the team, now going into my senior year I'm the fastest!

    Good luck with your season!

  6. AH totally go for it!!! last year i was a freshman in hs and i was in your same situation!!! but i fell in love with the sport and i went from top JV runner to top varsity runner. all you have to do is work hard and love what you do and you can succeed!!

seriouslly though, dont worry if you cant keep up the first few weeks, once you get in shape you will really start lovin the sport and all you'll wanna do is run and improve!!

  7. do it! it really doesnt matter if your just starting and anyway if you find someone to run with just tell them that you need a short break i think they will understand if not take you little break and start up again it will be fine cuz u'll start to notice you take less and shorter little breaks as the season goes on!
