Question:

Cross Country Biking?

this might be a stupid question but people that ride there bicycle cross country.. do they ride on the highway? i play on riding my bike from wisconsin to missouri and riding on the highway.... would that be safe? any other ideas? because i was just thinkin about on highways how they have those jagged edges in the side of the road for the people that end up driving off the road.. so where would i ride?

  1. your fine if you stay on the road, everybody moves over out of respect.

    but even in a car the highway is still dangerous


  2. You cannot ride a bicycle on the interstate highway system, it is illegal and VERY dangerous. Secondary roads such as state routes are fine, but the high speed roads are still fairly dangerous to bicycles.  I got smacked in the ear with a truck mirror - just nicked it, and it bled like crazy.

    Look for two lane and county level highways for your route planning.

  3. Most of the highways have signs stating that it is a bicycle route.  They have a wide shoulder and ride on the right side of the rumble strips.
