I want to do a sporting event and I think cross country would be pretty cool. I havent been in a team sprt since 8th grade i was on the track team...Is it too late to pick up cross country?? Im 15 (male) and In 10th grade and when I join the team I would be in 11th grade..I want to train in the summer but would it be useless? Any training tips for the summer like how i should run??

  1. I think you can do it . It not too late.you just have to work really hard this on your long distance running. you should start running a mile every day then work your way up

  2. i think you can do it! running is pretty easy to pick up you just have to try really hard and don't give up, because even though it might seem like everyone is better, you are new! this summer you should start short but build up to at least 5 easy miles a day. good luck!

  3. Build up to it slowly...and do your research before you randomly get out there and run

try websites like www.runnersworld.com to give you training advice..or ask any runners you happen to know (kids on the team, etc)

for xc, you obviously need endurance

You should run at least 4 times a week, and build up the first few days/weeks until you feel comfortable doing longer distances.

get a watch and just start running, start at 15 minutes a day and work yourself up (in 5 minute incriments or so) until you can run for about an hour--thats about how long xc distance runs typically are. if you need to, take walking breaks during your runs to stay energized. its hard at first but it gets wwaaay easier and waaaay more fun.

don't kill yourself, make sure you have the right shoes, and make sure you EAT HEALTHY. this will all make you a good runner.

you said you were on the track team once...so you're probably already a decent runner.

    good luck!

  4. No it is never to late to pick up on something. I run cross country, its a great sport.  You should train in the summer, it really helps. You should start running a mile and slowly incress. At the end of the summer you should be able to run any where from 8-12 miles if you keep this up. Also you should do about 30 push ups and sit ups each night.  You should just pace yourself.

  5. yeap it's a good idea to run in summer n nothing won't be too late if u give it a try now.constant practice w'd make u perfect at d end of the day.good luck.

  6. okay i've smoked cigerattes for 6 years.

im fat. i never ran in my life really.

and here my friend got me to join xc my sophmore year. seemed like something i would of just quit at but actually i became a varsity runner, lost wieght. and love it now.

first if your out of shape start by

warming up slow slow pace dont break a sweat for about 5 mins.

then go run 1 mile and cool down with another 5min run.

every week add a mile if you can until you get to 6 miles.

after that in the summer you should have a good endurance base. then you rotate between 3 miles hard 5 miles easy every day.

make sure to warm up and stretch before you run. gives you longer stride rate witch helps u run faster without using any more energy. and cool down to get lactic acids out fo your legs so you don't feel sore next day.

    hope you have fun

ohh and if you want to make routes to figure how much your running

    use mapmyrun.com

  7. Quite actually it is never too late to start CrossCountry.  I  don't think it would be  a waste but you need to start by running a few miles a day and work up half a mile each week... My coach has us running this summer...ugh...but it's all good because running is a good escape for some people...anyways...no, i think you should run it will be good for you........
