I am a freshman going into my 10 grade year. I need help getting started. I cant run on the road because my road is super busy. I run on a treadmill. I have started to run a mile but my time is not very fast.. I was wondering if it would be important to cut my mile time or to-do a longer run but have it take a little longer.

  1. No treadmill. roads, or trails, and get your mileage up

  2. well I would run for a long distance but at a slower pace you will need to build you stamina and cardio but each time make it your goal to run the same distance but a faster time  something like that good luck and if you can run at a track would be batter on your feet

  3. Start running longer distances and try going to a nearby park and practice on hills because several cross country courses contain very challenging hills, you'll love it though, the challenge makes you want to go back for more =]

  4. treadmills are not very accurate

i can run under a 6 min mile but cannot seem to get under 10 on a treadmill even if i feel like i am going just as fast..maybe b/c i get so bored

the best thing to do is find a good place to run outside, you will enjoy it so much more

or even find a track, ask around

there are probably lots of other runners who know where to go

if you are going to be doing xc, races are usually a 5k which is 3.1 miles

so definately work on longer distances

i mile once a week is good to build speed

but you will need a stronger base

run 4-5 miles at LEAST 3 times a week

the more you practice the easier it will get

and your time will drop in no time

this will help prepare you for the fall season

once you start training with the team you will get even better

it's so much easier with a coach and friends to run with

    good luck!
