I'm definitely out of shape/over weight and I'm supposed to be going cross country skiing this weekend in yellowstone, but I've heard that it's more strenuous than you think.

Can anyone who's cross country skiied give me some insight ??

  1. no you should not do it espesially at that elevation you wont be able to breath

  2. no no no you'll die out there if u r not in top condition, cross country is a major workout and u really have to be in shape to be any good or even alright. Go for downhill skiing instead.

    Good Luck. Ez

  3. It'll be fine as long as you can set your own pace, without someone hurrying you. It IS strenuous, but as long as you're not going uphill it can be straightforward and fun as well. Talk to the people you're going with and determine their intentions.

  4. I'm a racer--but you don't have to be to have fun. The cool thing about cross-country skiing is that you can make it as hard as you want to. Yes, it's probally more strenous than downhill, but you can go at a turtle pace and that's just fine. I know  seventy year olds who do it, and I started when  I was a year and a half.

Just try it, it is amazingly fun and rewarding.

  5. Absolutely!  Cross Country skiing, if you go slow, can be easier than walking.  Don't worry about the strenuous part, you don't have to go all-out, just enjoy the scenery and take it easy.  I have been cross country skiing all my life and I am now an avid racer, but I started out in the same position as you.
