Cross Country help please

Ok so I have cross country tryouts today. I run the 3 mile (XC) in less than 20 minutes. I want to make varsity. I have never ran cross country before and I have a couple of questions.

*Is Cross Country alot different from running a regular 3 mile race? If so please explain.

* What are the best running shoes for cross country? I want a shoe that has a lot of cushion and traction.

* Since it is my first year, how can I make friends with the upper classmen without seeming weird?

* Any tips for tryouts???

  1. High School cross country race are 5 Ks ~3miles. They include all sorts of terrain. I ran in brooks / mizunos for practice,a nd used long distance spikes for races. If you're a freshman girl and can run a 5K in less than 20 minutes, that's really good, and you shouldn't have any problems making friends with upper classmen since you will most likely be running at their pace. Bu they might patronize you for being so good as a freshman. Run Hard!


  2. Listen to me. I had a hard time running it. I did it in a good time, but I was really hurting! Heres some tips.

    ♪ Don't run fast at first

    ♪ Allow your self to stop a few times, for about 30 seconds

    ♪ At first, go slow, and gain some speed as you go along

    ♪ Don't worry about what others think

    ♪ Never make your self do something you can't

    ♪ Just make sure you drink LOTS of water

    ♪ Don't carry a water bottle you have to hold,

    Get one you can go over your shoulders

    ♪ Don't wear jewelery

    ♪ Wear your hair up, So its not in your face

    ♪ Just remember all these tips, and you will do great!
