  1. xc mostly just has the 5k but we ran a couple shorter events freshman year. if your a girl those are good times! if your a guy, its good but you should probally try to bring it down a little bit! either way running some before practice would help you out a lot when the season starts. good luck and have fun!

  2. cross country is just long distance running - which it sounds like you can do based on your times and distance. But i would for sure reccomend track especially since it sounds like your a beginner. Track & field has many events and a good coach will help find one that you were made for. you may not know it but you could be a brilliantly hurdler or long jumper.

  3. There are different XC events, it all depends on where you compete though.

The highschool I went to, the highest distance was 6km.

The XC club I used to run with, the highest was 10 or 12km (can't remember - probably 12 - two laps of the lake)

But the ones that I'm aware of are:

    > 1500m (some clubs/comps have it, but usually for juniors)

    > 3km

    > 5km

    > 10km

    > 20km

    > 21km (half marathon)

    > 42km (marathon)

  4. xc has one event. girls and guys varsity run 5k which is 3.1 miles. jv run a 2 mile race. if you say your school is as good as you said and they went to state i dont think you have a chance, bcuz im a girl and my 5k time is 18 something. you can try if you want.

  5. Cross-country has one event- 5k or 3.1miles, unless you are a freshman, then you will compete at 1.5 miles.

Go for it! Cross-country is a tough sport, but if you plan on playing other sports or going out for the track team, this will help you a lot. And the more practice, the better you get.

  6. There's only one event in cross country in high school.  The 5K

A good 5k time is under 18:00.  If you want to be really good you need to run under 16:30.  If you work hard I'm sure you could make the team but it will be a lot of work.

For the mile a good time is under 5 minutes and 4:30 will put you among the elite runners.

The two mile you need to run around 10:30 to be good and under 9:50 to be really good.

The other events you listed aren't run in cross country or track.

    Good luck

  7. You sound like a good runner.

In cross country there is one event, but different levels like varsity and JV. You will be high JV or varstiy with those times depending on the strength of your team. Cross country at my school was no cut so you will for sure make the team even if it is cut your times are good enough.

Even though you have a good team, you will improve and do really great.

Totally do it and have fun dont worry about where you are on the team.
