Of Cource its the time where Cross Country is starting again.

I have done alot of biking this summer doing 20-30 mile bike rides and such. But i want to start getting into the running mode, and wondering what exactly i should do.

Should i just go for long slow runs? Should i go for shorter runs and go hard?

Please suggestions?

  1. Honestly, I would just go for base mileage. Longish, slow runs to get your body used to it again. This will probably decrease a chance for injury if you ease in. Beyond that, I'm sure your cross country coach will have more than enough planned for you in the way of speed when the season starts. :P

  2. Preseason you're supposed to go on long runs at a steady, slow pace to build mileage.

Early season you're supposed to do tempo runs.

And then mid-season you're supposed to increase the speed of your runs.
