  1. i have a pair of cross country spikes that i run in when the race is only on grass.

i also have a pair of dimples/flats which i wear when there is concrete on the course.

if your just going to get one pair i would say get the dimples/flats. you can get these at most running stores. they are light and feel good to run in.

DON'T RACE IN TRAINING SHOES. AND DON'T TRAIN IN YOUR RACING SHOES.

you want your training shoes to be heavier than your racing shoes.

  2. No need. Just have a comfortable shoes.

  3. For running, just to clarify, there are no "cleats".  However, there are spikes, which are similar.  They are rubber-soled shoes with metal spikes from the ball of the foot forward for grip.

You do not need to wear them during cross country, or any other race.  However, it is highly recommended.  This is because they allow you to keep a better grip than you otherwise might be able to.  Your foot will not slide backwards or sideways, because the spikes grip the ground.  This is especially true on muddy or sandy cross country courses.

    Good luck!

  4. they're called spikes or you can get a different kind sometimes called racing flats or waffles, these are very similar to spikes they just dont have the metal faceplate for spikes and are more ideal for cement races so you arent running in spikes on that surface.

  5. you don't wear cleats.... you should get spikes. they really help you get better traction....but if anything just great running shoes.

  6. Though spikes (not cleats) give good traction and save energy - they are lighter so you carry less weight through the race - they are not required.  I ran some of my best races in my training shoes.

  7. not cleats...spikes. and no, you don't have to. they're just good to have for meets because they let you get good traction which is good for xc. they are also lighter.

  8. no u don't those will slow u down get cross country spikes at d**k ponds or any other running store even track spikes are okay.

  9. naw, its just good for going uphills if you have a good pair of running shoes don;t spend your money

  10. i do

but only when it is wet usually
