Cross Platform play announced for PS Vita and PlayStation 3 – Video Games Update
Sony has announced at Gamescom that the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) gamers will be able to play online with PlayStation 3 (PS3) gamers on titles which are available on both platforms.
Sony has been getting a lot of heat ever since the PS Vita launch but the company has finally delivered on its promises at this years’ Gamescom in Germany and announced a multitude of exclusive titles for the handheld and revealed game-play trailers for
many previously announced ones.
The PS Vita titles featured at Sony’s Gamescom event consisted of Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, Killzone: Mercenary, Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank Q Force, Sony’s All Stars Battle Royale and Media Molecule’s new exclusive
intellectual property (IP) titled Tear Away.
It seems that Sony is all set for the holiday season as gamers will now have a nice variety of games to choose from for the handheld. The best part about some of the titles revealed for the PS Vita is that they will feature cross platform game-play with
the PS3.
Sony has also announced that gamers who purchase the PS3 version of Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank Q Force and All Stars Battle Royale will also be given the PS Vita version of those games for free. These titles are being called ‘Crossbuy’ PS3 games.
Sony has stated that this is just the beginning as the company is planning to heavily invest in the cross platform feature. If gamers were still holding off from buying a PS Vita, now just might be the perfect time to get the handheld. It will be even better
if gamers already have a PS3 console as then they can just buy the select games for the console and get them for the handheld for free.
Sony finally has a definitive edge over Nintendo’s 3DS with the PS Vita cross-play feature and now with the announcement of blockbuster games like Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty there is a good reason to get the handheld this holiday season. Sony had
also announced previously that the company will be announcing bundles for the PS Vita so gamers will have the chance to snag the handheld along with their favourite game.
