Cross continental collision in the Dubai World Cup among So You Think, Capponi and the Breeders’ Cup achievers on 31st March at Meydan
The Grade 1, US $10 million Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline at Meydan over a mile and two furlongs on 31st March has drawn a highly versatile lineup of fourteen runners.
The two highlights of the event are Aidan O’Brien trained six-year-old brown horse and Mahmood Al Zarooni’s under charge Capponi.
So You Think oozes with exceptional experience when it comes to the distance that he is being asked to race through today, so much so that his debut victory with A O’Brien was over the similar distance.
The Group 3 High Chaparral European Breeders Fund Mooresbridge Stakes on 2nd May 2011 gave So You Think the first joining dot of his success story. He has been successful in four ventures out of the seven that he undertook after coming under the
guidance of the hall mark trainer, A O’Brien. Six of the outings were of the most prestigious level. Even the races that So You Think missed were really not any disturbing losses, two second scores and then a sixth position in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The last loss has an altogether different plot because it was a race filled with surprises, firstly the winner being Drosselmeyer, who was not even a consideration for the first three places and secondly champions like Game On Dude and Ruler On Ice trailing
behind covered up the loss endured by So You Think.
Compelling reasons for his victory tonight is the comfort level that he has displayed off and on when racing on dirt and thus possesses overwhelming chances of a deceptive speed over tapeta too.
On top of the surface and speed, the potential is topped with tactical racing skills. Responding and then pacing according to the demands of the track is what sets him aside from many others contesting today.
So You Think does face potential threat from the American racing stars, Game On Dude and Royal Delta.
Capponi, Medicean’s five-year-old chestnut horse out of mare Nawaiet, trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni has been extraordinary lately with three victories bagged away out of the four outings that he made during the new season and that too at Meydan.
“Capponi has done remarkably well throughout the Carnival, showing great improvement. He was a handicap horse and then he won a Group One. He only ran once last year, finishing seventh, and afterwards His Highness said he was a nice horse and to give him
time. We did that and when Capponi started again this year he was a stronger horse. His last run was excellent and he just loves the Tapeta surface at Meydan. He has both speed and stamina and I think he will run a good race."
Hall mark trainer coupled with genius of his profession jockey, Ahmed Ajtebi, at a race course that is almost home to Capponi leaves very minor if no doubt of being the star for tonight making the richest race of the world his fourth leg of the winning streak.
However, he has got serious rivals, Monterosso, being the stable mate threat along with the Saeed Bin Suroor duo, Mendip and Prince Bishop.
