Question:

Cross country starts earlier than expected?

I'm a girl going into 10th grade and just found out cross country starts on the 18th. I was going to use August to build up my mileage by 1/2 mile each week (1 and 1/2 miles to 3) but now I have 2 weeks instead of 4. What should I do to get as fit as possible in the next 2 weeks? Just increase by 1 mile and push through it?

  1. I think you should start running in a reasonable pace.  Jogging slowly daily will make you run slowly.  You can also run twice a day as my coach recommended us to do (we've been having practices since June).  Try to work up to at least 3 miles per run.  You'd be getting in 6 miles a day and depending on how many days you run a week, you can get your mileage up there pretty easily.  Maybe one day just run as far as you can to see where you're at.

  2. ok well I'm also a 10th grader and my tryouts for cross country start tomorrow. =[ so what I would suggest is just to run a lot, run treadmill, try hill repeats...you know just runnning exercises. good luck!

  3. you should  just try to pick up your speed a little and in cress your mileage. If your not feeling tired then go a little further of faster, just don't over do it.
