I want to cross train after 2 years of my job. How do I get this process started, or who do I talk to to start this process?

  1. I have to disagree with the first Sgt on this one.  Your window is at your 35th month if you are a 4 year enlistee, however, you need to know what AFSC you want to change to. . . now is a perfect time to do a little research, do a little shadowing, etc.  I thought I wanted to be a Pharmacy Tech until I spent a couple of hours at my base pharmacy one day.  I also wanted to be AWACS until I found out the bases that were available.  You can avoid all the angst if you do the research now and get a few choices together.

  2. It use to be a minimum of 36 months TIS before MPF and Randolph would entertain an AFSC change.  Check with MPF.

  3. You have to have 2.5 years in your AFSC before you can even apply to cross train.

But before you even try, you need to see if your AFSC is stressed or not.

They will not let anyone in a stressed AFSC cross train.

If your AFSC is way overmanned, they may allow you to cross train into a stressed AFSC.

Generally, they are not going to approve cross training, untill your first reenlistment, even there, it will depend on what your afsc is and what afsc you want to cross train into.

Go make an appointment at your wings career advisor.

  4. If you're into year 2 of a 4 or 6 year enlistment it's too early to cross train.  You can investigate that as part of your reenlistment starting at around the 3 or 5 year point.  The Customer Service folks at the MPF can explain it all to you, as probably can your supervisor or First Shirt.
