Crossbite/underbite correction surgery?

I asked something similar about 7 months ago on here and got a great answer, but i have more questions now, so the quick overview is i have braces for 9 years and couldnt take it any more had to get them off 7 years is enough, one would think that an orthodontist would do there job correctly in 9 years, buuuut i still have a mega underbite to the point where it effects chewing and intense daily headaches. Also the top jaw is misaligned with the rest of my face, its to the side about 2 centimeters. However even tho the top is all screwed up the bottom is perfect, i couldnt ask for more on the bottom jaw its so beautiful. So the surgery would im assuming make the top jaw come out further and perhaps replace a missing eye tooth that was taken out before. But my questions are has anyone had this surgery? The cost of this surgery in the US or better yet new england, even more specific massachusetts? and does this surgery require much healing time? or my jaw wired shut?? I have two weeks off in december is that enough time to at least have initail healing done with or able to talk? im nto expected to be healed in 2 weeks, piercings dont even heal in two weeks so im not expecting major surgery to be healed in two weeks just enough for me to slowly get back into my life routine of work and such.

Thanks so much any info at all would really be great

  1. Orthognathic surgery is an answer to misalignment in jaw while orthodontic braces address straightening of teeth. I wonder how could you sustain braces for 9 years while actually you needed jaw surgery in the first place. You are unnecessarily getting worried about seeing your mouth wired shut, etc., which may be a part of the surgery and cannot be escaped. Pain for a short period is worth investing if it makes your future all smiles and healthy.

Often cost involved (about $15-25K) is the main stumbling block. After one of my previous posts (http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind... I checked up prices overseas and found a quote very competitive that covered all aspects right from arrival to departure.

  2. i dont know about thaose places but i had brace because of my cleft pallet and a good place and othadontist is at the mater childrens/womens hospital

  3. if my overbite isnt able to be fixed with the herbst appliance, then i will have to get surgery or else i will be in a lot of pain when i get older. i here that if you need surgery for an overbite/overjet, or underbite, then you will have a scar inside your mouth. and your mouth is usually wired for awhile to keep it permanet.^_^♥
