Crossed into 40: Right wing Jaromir Jagr adamant age influences retirement from NHL-NHL News
Right wing, Jaromir Jagr, has refused to let age influence his choice and decision of calling it quits from the National Hockey League (NHL) as in spite of having crossed into 40 he is said to be clueless about his retirement plans.
Jagr returned to the NHL in the 2011-2012 season, playing for the Philadelphia Flyers and the future Hall of Famer looked as impressive as he had been quite a few years ago in his career.
His latest coming to the NHL had happened after a gap of three years, which he had spent in Russia.
However, in spite of the player’s presence in the league this season, some commentators do not believe he will last much longer.
Jagr’s this year’s performance record consists of 19 goals and 35 assists. He, in total, played 73 games during the regular season.
He said to have enjoyed the last season’s run more than his previous stints. He said:
"That was probably my most enjoyable year I ever had. I won some [Stanley] Cups, I won some trophies, but I loved this year. From the organization to the last player on the team, and the fans, they were so nice to me. I hate to finish it right now. That's
the worst feeling. You want to finish the whole story."
His teammates have also spoken high of his talent and skills. Right wing, Jakub Voracek, said of Jagr:
"He's a great guy in the locker room he's a lot of fun to be around. He's still showing he can play at the top level in the NHL at 40. Only a few guys can do it. That's why he's so special."
Before his NHL’s rejoining, there were some reports that the player would announce or otherwise set a timeframe for his retirement from the game after having played few initial games.
However, he has so far remained adamant of accepting the notion that his age is very much near the time he should decide his retirement. So far, all the talk and analysis confirm his availability for yet another season (2012-2013) at least.
