Crossing from Texas into Mexico...?

I'll be in the South Texan town of McAllen in the Rio Grande Valley region in May & as it is very near the border, I would like to cross into Mexico. I know that there is a main border crossing between the town of Hidaglo and Reynosa on the Mexican side.

I was wondering if anyone else has made this crossing & if its possible to do soon foot & if so, would I be within walking diatance to the town centre of Reynosa? I'll be taking my passport (I'm Irish), but does anyone know if a visa would be required for entry?

  1. Reynosa is a nice town& people, and real bad cop

  2. OK, Im from Monterrey Mexico and been in McAllen more than 100 times, (we all people from monterrey have)

OK, if you are STayin in McAllen, Walkin to the border is NOT an option, its like 30Km from McAllen... (on the 10th Street)

Reynosa is "Nice" its an ugly border city but theres a good night life but nothing very amazing, if you want to go to the market and buy mexican paraphernalia go ahead there are a few nice places to do so.

    Have fun

  3. I know about El  Paso, Texas.... But you can cross on foot. But you will still have to have a photo Id/ Pass port. And I would take your visa. Because you are passing over from the US. And they will need to know if you even have the right to be in the US. Just be careful. Don't drink the water LOL....

And take lots of photos Cause it is worth the trip....Put I would go down more in to Mexico and then it gets nice.

  4. i don't know but i know you have to have a passport

  5. Yes, there is a major crossing there and you may walk across.  You do not need a visa.  Do be careful in Reynoso.  I am sorry to say , it is a dirty, ugly and dangerous border town.  Not at all representative of the rest of Mexico.

  6. I would not cross into Reynosa as there have been a lot of trouble there.  There is a big drug war going on between the drug lords of the area.  I allways cross at Progresso just south of Mercedes tx.  I have found no cheaper place to buy things and they take american green and give you back american green in change.  You can walk accross the bridge or drive in if you would like.  Either way is good and safe.  I crossed there the first of Dec. and now am just south of Cancun traveling around Mexico.  If you would like to see my trip go to travelpod.com and look up ironworker025 as I have a blog of my trip.  Bill
