  1. If you ran pass a school bus stop and the bus driver got your plate number then your will receive a ticket through the mail and you will have a court date.

  2. Step 1 ,,, Stop driving until you understand the rules of the road before your ignorance kills someone. I have been to other countries where I didnt understand the traffic rules and you know what ?  I DIDNT FRIKKING DRIVE A CAR!!!... Hopefully the bus driver got your tag number and called the police.. Depending on the area whether or not the police pursue charges or not. In many areas passing a stopped schoolbus is the same level crime as drunk driving.

  3. Depending on what state you reside in, if the bus driver has plate number and CAN IDENTIFY you then the police could issue you a ticket.

Many states have the driver warning system.  If the driver reports the plate number to DMV, the person receives a warning letter form DMV as to what the penalties are.  Passing the red flashing lights of a school bus in NY could lead to 5 points on your license and a minimum of a 250 dollar fine.

    NO EXCUSE FOR NOT STOPPING.

  4. Anytime there is a red light or a sign with the words "STOP"  on it, that tells you you should STOP.

    Pretty simple.

Now be careful out there and get a drivers handbook to study the rules, that would be the wise thing to do.

  5. If you mean that you passed a school bus with it's "STOP" sign (mounted on the left side, the street side of the bus, usually near the driver) extended, or folded out from the side of the bus, then, yes, that is illegal.  If you were not seen by the police or reported, then probably nothing will happen to you.

Many school buses are equipped with video cameras that record drivers and the license plates of their cars when they pass a bus that has its' stop sign out.  If this has happened, then you could still receive a summons (ticket) through the mail.

The law requires a driver from either direction to stop when approaching a school bus who has the yellow or red lights flashing, does not matter if the stop sign is out or in (still along the side of the bus).  The lights mean the bus is going to stop, or is stopped and the law says for the drivers to stop, wether they are approaching the front or the rear of the bus.  These laws seem to be widely misunderstood, especially on divided streets.  Sometimes with tragic results, for both the victim and the automobile driver.  It is not worth the risk to try to go around any school bus that has it's lights flashing.

If in doubt, check your own state laws.  While these laws are generally uniform, there may be some differences from state to state.  You can check with a booklet from the drivers license station, a phone call to the Dept. of Tranportation or perhaps an internet search for your state.  Or call the local school district and they can connect you to their bus supervisor.

  6. New to this place and driving? Give me a break....That would be no excuse for hitting a child that was coming off that bus. You need to either get off the road or pay attention when you drive. As far as what will happen...I expect someone will have gotten your license plate number and you will receive a ticket in the mail.
