Question:

Crossing the border with medicine?

I am going to Mexico on business for about a week. I am taking my medicine with me: MS-CONTIN and Percocet. I am post surgery and need to take this with me. Is it ok to cross the border with these medicines? They were filled in a US Pharmacy here in America, I am NOT traveling with any mexican medicine. I'm just wondering if US Customs has a problem with AMERICANS traveling with AMERICAN medicine. I have a letter from my doctor stating that she prescribed it to me and for what, and I also have the original packaging from the pharmacy. Can someone please tell me if this is ok?

Thanks!

  1. Keep it in the original bottles, and have the letter handy.  You should have no problems.  U.S. customs requires for control medications that they must be in their original bottles and you should have a letter/prescription from the prescriber.

  2. Im not sure what the regulations are if u ar eflying, but if you drive you should have no problem, just keep the in you purse, because they checked me once when going to Mexico but it was just like the big bags.

  3. hallo,

the customs allow to bring along the medicines but of a reasonable quantity and for personal use only.

the prescriptions will also serve as a proof that you carry the drugs for yourself.

so, don't worry, everything will be fine.

  4. I have seizures and take a fair amount of drugs with me ALWAYS, never had a problem. Haven't been back since the passport law went into effect though, shouldn't matter because they are meant to stop Mexican pharmaceuticals from coming north.

  5. When you are crossing into Mexico they wont search you. When you are crossing back over the the United States they will see you have med. but nothing else.
