  1. Gold is A LOT softer.  Go with the porcelain, it will last a lot longer. And they are about the same price. Porcelain can chip but it is VERY unlikely. Gold is worse because of the softness. I have 4 porcelain crowns and none have chipped. I've had one of them for about 20 years and the others for about 6 or 7 years. Hope this helps.....

  2. i am getting porcelain but mine will be in the front of my mouth.

  3. depends where in your mouth it is

if its a noticeable tooth, have porcelain

  4. Yes, they do cost about the same.

As to which one is better, well that depends on your wants and needs.

Porcelain is white and gold is well....gold.

Other than that there are two big differences.

Gold requires less tooth reduction.  About .5mm as opposed to 1.5-2mm for a porcelain crown.  If you are worried about the nerve in the tooth, the more you stay to the outside, ie the less you go towards the middle, is better.

Gold can not break.  Porcelain can break and chip off.  If this happens there is no way to fix it properly.  You would likely need a new crown.

Both give good margins, and both should last in the 20 year range.

Update....whomever gave me a thumbs down...could you please explain why????

  5. if u wanna look like a pimp have gold, porcelain is way better though
