Crowne Plaza Invitational: Jim Furyk records another top-10 finish on the PGA Tour
Jim Furyk carded a two-under par 68 in the final round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational to take the fourth spot on the leaderboard on Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Furyk made a confident start at the Colonial Country Club with a birdie on the very first hole. However, he made a wayward tee shot on the fifth hole to suffer a bogey in the end.
Birdies on the seventh, 10th and 11th holes took him to three-under for the round, followed by a bogey-birdie-bogey streak starting from the 12th hole.
It was a bit disappointing for Furyk to finish at two-under, especially when he had the chance to record birdies on three of the last four holes.
However, he failed to convert the birdie putts and settled for par on each of them that forced him to stay one stroke behind Tommy Gainey.
“I'm a little bit disappointed with the finish. I had some really good birdie looks on three of the last four holes and wasn't able to convert one of the putts,” he said. “I played well and solid all week. I just wished down the stretch, under the gun, I
would have hit a few more good putts”.
By and large, it was Furyk’s third top-10 finish of the season in the 11 events he has played so far.
He has been displaying some good golf for the last few months. However, the golf commentators believe that he always has struggled with his putting that typically creates a line between the wins and getting close.
Therefore, he must concentrate a little extra on his putting that may help him improve his record on the PGA Tour this year.
Meanwhile, Zach Johnson recorded a two-over par 72 on Sunday to take an edge over Jason Dufner, who recorded a four-over par 74, to record the second victory in the history of the event.
Dufner lead the second and third round and had a one-stroke lead entering the final round.
However, a double bogey and triple bogey each, on the 9th and 15th hole, respectively, cost him the third victory in the four-week stretch on the PGA Tour.
