Robert Bowling, the series community manager, and Infinity Ward both announced that they had parted ways.
The Call of Duty series has become the most successful series in the history of video games from both a financial perspective and ‘most played’ point of view as well. The series really came into prominence following the release of the Infinity Ward developed,
Modern Warfare, entry into the Call of Duty franchise.
The game proved a massive hit and every entry into the series from that point on did nothing but break every sales record possible. Treyarch’s two games, World At War and Black Ops, which released in between the three Modern Warfare games, also benefitted
from their counterpart’s success.
One person, who played a crucial part in the success of the series and building the franchise, was the face of the Modern Warfare series and Infinity Ward, the series developer, Robert Bowling.
However, it seems that the relationship between the two parties has come to an end as Bowling announced he was resigning from Infinity Ward and effectively from future Call of Duty related projects.
He took to the social networking site, Twitter, to let his legions of followers know. He tweeted, “Today, I resign from my position as Creative Strategist of Call of Duty, as a lead of Infinity Ward, and as an employee of Activision.”
For those who thought that Mr. Bowling was playing an early April’s fool prank were left disappointed when Activision confirmed the news with a statement and wished Mr. Bowling the best in the future.
It read, “We sincerely thank Robert for his many years of service. He’s been a trusted and valued member of the Infinity Ward team. We wish him all the best on his decision to pursue future opportunities.”
So there you have it, the face of the Modern Warfare series has left the studio that helped make it the best-selling franchise in history and there is only one question on everyone’s minds and that is where Mr. Bowling will end up next.
A return to EA would not be too farfetched though if he joins Respawn, then very few will be able to deny that they saw it coming.
