Didier Drogba
Didier Yves Drogba Tébily is an Ivorian footballer, born on 11th March 1978. Playing currently for Chelsea, he is a centre forward position footballer. Playing in the Premier League for Chelsea, he is the captain and high achiever of the team.
He, maintains his reputation by being the scoring the highest number of goals for Chelsea, in comparison to any other foreign player.
A great player that Drogba is, he possesses a heart of gold too. His work does not hinder him from working for a good cause and uplifting the society. He is known for playing a crucial role in bringing peace to his hometown. Making desperate petitions to
cease war and also further leading an African Cup of Nations qualifier to the revolutionary iron grip of Bouake. His association is in the peace process to pave Drogba being named as one of the world's 100 most influential people by Time magazine.
Playing in youth teams as a young boy, Drogba made his way into professional life at the age of 18 for Ligue 2 club Le Mans. A little slow at showing his tactics and strengths he signed his first contract when he was 21. But his real potential did not shine
on the grounds till 2002-03, where he scored 17 goals in 34 appearances in Ligue 1 for Guingamp.
Furthermore during the same season, he made his first international appearance for Côte d'Ivoire, in September and goal in following February. He shifted to Olympique de Marseille in 2003 for £3.3 million. His scoring success at Olympique de Marseille sustained,
concluding as the third highest scorer in Ligue 1 with 19 goals and aided towards the club to reach the 2004 UEFA Cup Final.
Drogba continued to move and went to Chelsea the following season for a shocking fee of £24 million, making him the most expensive Côte d'Ivoire player in history. Further, adding up, Drogba scored critical goals in the 2005 Football League Cup Final and
in the 2005 FA Community Shield and assisted the club won their first ever Premier League title. Drogba came to fame as one of the world's leading strikers in 2006 as he won the league title with Chelsea again and captained the national team for the first
time.
In the 2006 World Cup he scored Côte d'Ivoire's first ever goal of the competition and he was chosen as the 2006 African Footballer of the Year. The next season he ended as top scorer in the 2006–07 Premier League with 20 goals and also scored the winning
goals in the 2007 Football League Cup Final and FA Cup Finals. He won the FA Cup for the second time in 2009, scoring the equalizer in the final.
In the 2009–10 season Drogba remained active in Chelsea’s success as their first double in the club's history occurred. He won his second Golden Boot with 29 goals, and scored the only goal in Chelsea's victory over Portsmouth in the 2010 FA Cup Final. This
goal makes him the only player to score in 6 English Cup finals.
A sensational player and a first-class community player; all this aids towards his recognition as a sportsman and a good human. Till ultimately helps him shine towards his achievements and success progression.
Drogba so far has been the star player on the Chelsea side. Almost everything the player has touched has turned to gold for the team. The team will be hoping that Drogba can continue his impressive run, all the way till the end of the season.
The Blues, are also well aware of the fact, that when the day comes, for the player to call an end to his career, they might not have a player to replace the ‘Black Storm’ that has won the hearts, of everyone at the Stamford Bridge.
