Ok so my husband and I are going on a three night cruise that leaves this friday. I have been on one before but it was 4 years ago. I know they have the assigned dining times. We got the 6:15 dinner. I remember the food was AMAZING but I don't remember what the guys were wearing during dinners. I know they have one formal night but on the other nights can he wear a nice pair of jeans and a button down top?

  1. I just got back from a cruise on Carnival. They discourage jeans. How about a pair of Khakis and a polo. Also no shorts, or tees.

  2. Just got back from a Carnival Cruise a few weeks back.  When going down to dinner in the restaurant, guys need to wear "casual" clothing not including jeans or shorts.  They must wear pants/slacks with a polo type shirt.  Hope this helps and have fun!

  3. I have been on many cruises with 4 different cruise lines and I have seen all manner of dress in the main dining room for dinner.  If by "nice pair of jean" you mean blue (not tight, hip huggers, faded or ragged) jeans with a single or double pleat (like maybe Tommy Helfigers or some other designer jeans) and he wears those with a shirt with a collar  like a dress shirt (maybe a tie) and closed in shoes, not sandals or flip-flops, he will be fine in the main dining room for dinner.

The other option for him if he is planning to wear a tux or suit on the formal night is to just wear the slacks for the suit or tux to dinner and then go change.  OR, go buy 1 pair of slacks to wear every evening to dinner.

  4. At the main dining rooms, Norwegian cruises (departing from Texas only) is the only cruise line I know to bend the "no jeans" policy.  Every other cruise line follows the "business casual" minimum.

  5. The fact is he needs to go shopping.  Yes, he could get away with wearing jeans but no one else will.  They will not deny him service, but why go thru all that anyway over a pair of pants?

So buy him one or two pairs of khaki pants and he is good.   One pair would actually do him fine for a short cruise because after dinner just go change if he wants and then wear them agian; no one will know or care.

    Have a great time!

  6. They recommend no jeans but definately no shorts, or sandals.

But if you must wear jeans, they won't deny you service.

  7. Smart Casual

  8. I would suggest you call the cruise line. I have been on 22 cruises with 3 different and only wear jeans and have never been refused service. Today the suggest you dress up but, fewer and fewer people are doing it. It is your money & vacation so you should beable to dress however you feel most comfortable. Also see if your ship has a buffet. Jeans are allowed and you can try new foods and eat as much as you want. Do not be to hard on hubby jeans are comfortable.

    Enjoy.
