  1. Atomic, I looked into getting a job on a cruise ship years ago, and it's NOT easy.   First of all, most of the ships are chartered under a non-US flag, and they only hire people from their own countries.   You would need to find a ship/boat that is American owned, and I would think you would have a better chance of getting work on a smaller ship/boat.  Forget the big cruise lines like Carnival, Holland-America, etc, as they DO NOT hire Americans.  Sorry, I don't know a website to give you, but do a search on Google in your area.

  2. Its 6 months on and 2 weeks off.

  3. Tivogal is right, usually is 6 to 9  months contracts with 1 off, sometimes 2 off.

I always had 2 off minimum between terms, but then I had to pay my own ticket.

There are some seasonal jobs, usually cruise staff, or kid hosts, when the ships are in determined areas of the world and you have a "season", like Baltic season (June, July, August) or Brazilian Season (December, Jan, Feb)...

On those specific situations you have to check directly with the cruise line that goes to those areas, but for Brazil you need Portuguese. For Baltic English is enough.

  4. usually they want a longer term commitment from you.  you have about 6 months or longer on your job and then if it all works out then they ask you to come back for another term.

here's a website to look at.
