  1. Working on a cruise ship is a great idea! you get to see the world and meet hundreds of new people. There are a huge variety of jobs onboard from laundry crew who get paid pennies, to purser office staff who get a very good wage. You could try for bar staff or shore excursions staff.

Having experience in tourism management is not going to go far in applying for a job, a good general education history will sufice.

It is almost impossible to get a job by contacting the cruise lines directly, there are agencys you can go through which increases your chance of getting a job.

  2. You realise of course, that working in a cruise ship is not as funny and easy as you think...

It is not a coincidence that the majority of the crew have studied Tourism Management.

The point that you have the model look does not  really mean anything if you want to work there. It is not like the area of fashion or modelling... so, don't depend too much on your appearance.

Of course, you could go to companies that have these ships and ask them what are the qualifications for working in a cruise ship...

    Additional:

The easiest way is to ask a tourism office or agent for what is needed for a person to work there. There are some companies that allow you to work while working and that hire teachers for tourism seminars... Check it with them and ask them all your questions (about accomodation, salaries...)

Then visit the sites of colleges near your house emphasizing on the programs of studies they give and if eventually, you find a college with the pack of studies you need, then visit the college and talk with them about your professional dreams, the prices,...

  3. Well, what do you envision yourself doing for work on the ship?

    Housekeeping, performing in shows, waitressing?

The treatment of the staff on some ships is not to be envied. There are 'fresh' passengers (and staff), long hours, pathetic sleeping areas and you are basically living on tips. There is no easy way to quit (get off the ship) and if you do get off, the cruise line is not going to get you home from where ever they left you.

I would be very careful and research extensively before joining a cruise crew.

  4. What ever you do DO NOT go to work for CARNIVAL, They SUCK. Good luck working on a cruiseship. The people that work on them really do have to work very hard. Most do a very good job. Have fun and be safe.
