Question:

Cruise Teen Clubs: Fun or Lame?

by  |  earlier

I'm going on a Royal Caribbean Cruise to the Bahamas and Coco Kai Islands during Spring Break (April 20-27).

I'm going with my family, but I don't have any sisters. My brother is 15, and I'm 13. He's not interested in going to the teen club, and even if he was, I'd be embarassed to dance in front of him.

So basically, I'm not going to have any friends there, but I want to check out the teen club and make friends. Are the teen clubs lame or are they fun? How you introduce yourself to other people, and is it awkward? Please help! Tell me what to expect!

Thanks a lot!

  1. The activities are pretty good. There are some good and some not so fun. I personally thought that the scavenger hunts with groups of friends were really fun. It is really easy to meet new people, especially when you go over spring break. There will be lots of people your age and in your position. When I went I was with my 11 year old brother (I was 16) so I was in the same position as you and I met many people to hang out with for the rest of the time. Don't worry, you'll have tons of fun! Cruises are amazing!

  2. I've been on the Royal Caribean Cruises, and I was in the same situation last summer. Most of the clubs are fun and it makes it really easy to make friends. Also, if that doesn't work for you, then try going to some of the teen activities. They normally aren't much fun, but if you go to some of the first couple then you'll make friends to hang out with the rest of the cruise.

    P.S. As far as the activities go, the scavenger hunts are always fun to go to with a group of friends!

  3. okay wen i went to one i went to the club for like the first two days and made friends after that u can just hang out with thoses people seperate for the club and its not really awkward cause every1 is in the same postion as u they probably wont no any1 either so jus b nice say hi and ask them where there from since thers gonna b people from differnt places

    good luck!!!!!!!!!!!=)

  4. Join up for the teen activities group as soon as you get on board.  You will immediately meet friends by joining in on the activities then you can check out the teen club once you find some people to hang out with.  My teenage boys always would find friends within five minutes of being on board.  They didn't spend a lot of time going to the teen club but RCCL has loads of parties and activities planned for each age group.  You can even go  snorkling at Coco Cay with the teen group instead of with your parents.  The youth staff goes to the island also!

  5. I was a teen cruise director on the Hanna-Berbera ships back in the 1990's.  I can't speak for all teen directors because it was rather a new service at the time, but we had loads of fun!  We had disco parties, yes, and hot tub nights, day scavenger hunts with prizes, water balloon fights, kite flying off the deck, star gazing during the perseids shooting stars, pool parties, movie nights and even a show which we produced and put on in front of the passengers.  Who cares if you are there at the same time your brother is?  A good director is going to make sure you both have fun and set you up with the right people.  I hope you have a great time.
