Cruise help needed...leaving this Sunday?

OK.I have read everything I could possibly read about cruising (visited all of the websites). I know there are no tanktops or shorts permitted for the diningroom, but what about a shirt w/ spaghetti straps or a fashionable halter? I know dresses w/spaghetti straps are allowed, but I just don't know. I am not talking about formal night. (Carnival Valor 7-day western carribean)

  1. I don't blame you the last thing you want is to go to dinner and be asked to change, I remember seeing spaghetti straps in the dinning room,  not sure about the halter

  2. The "dress code" posted by the cruise lines is essentially in place to keep people from dressing like slobs in the dining room.  You use the word "fashionable" to describe your halter, and that's probably a good test.  If it's fashionable, you won't have any problems.  If it looks like you just came in from mowing the lawn, you will. :-)

Since Carnival tends to cater to a younger crowd, I'd say anything you'd wear on a night out to a club would be perfectly acceptable on the ship.

  3. Tom Cruise can be contacted at Warner Movies (but I don't think he knows much about dresses)

  4. Don't obsess about this. I have been of several Carnival cruises and while they have a dress code for the evening dining they interpret it very loosely. I have yet to see anyone be asked to leave the dining room because of inappropriate attire and I have seen people come in jeans. Most people dress in what is called business casual. If you would wear it to work in an office it would be acceptable here. For guys its simple, a collared shirt and khaki or dress pants. For women it's a little more wide open and the halter styled top as long as it is not overly "revealing" would be deemed appropriate. But, as I previously said I am sure they will not ask you to leave, I would just not want you to feel uncomfortable or out of place. Remember you are on vacation so don't worry about the little things just try to squeeze in as much as you can and really enjoy yourself...you can sleep when you get home.

  5. I have been on many cruises and they always want you appropriately dressed for dinner in the main dining room.  The MatreD is the person who will be at the door to view passengers as they enter and invite those not appropriately dressed to change their clothes.  Its kinda hit or miss as to whether you will be stopped; some MatreD's don't pay attention.

To be on the safe side I suggest a shawl or sweater as you enter the dining room and then take it off after you are seated.  But don't try to go into the dining room in swim wear or with your naval showing.

  6. carry a light sweater....just in case.

  7. of course! those clothes are fine!! Have a great time!!!! = ]

  8. You will be fine in a nicely fitting tank w/ speghetti straps or a fashionable halter- esp if paired up w/ something other than jeans.

    have a good time!
