  1. There are many questions and answers for this.  And it will be better determined once you choose your cruise line and/or ship and itinerary.

As for the motion sickness.....you shouldnt worry about it too much.  You can take dramamine or ginger root to control that but more than likely you will not need it.

I have taken many cruises and I am a Certified Travel Agent and Cruise Specialist. I would love to help you plan your next cruise and answer any of your questions.  I would also like to help you travel for free!  Yes that is possible!  I can tell you how!  Also, we can see if we cannot get you some free onboard credit and promotional upgrades.  I promise that if you are taking such a large trip like this it would be better to speak with an expert who can inform you of everything and make your planning process run smoothly while getting you the best rate.  You can check out my website at http://www.paradiseescapestravel.joystar... or call me to find out how to cruise free or at a discounted group rate.  The possibilities are endless.

  2. Cruises are a blast! I have been on Carnival Cruises, and they are amazing. A good idea, if you can go dolphin swimming for a shore excusion, ITS GREAT! You can go on their noses, and they push you around, its sooo awesome. You probably wont have to worry about sea sick much, you wont feel it because the cruise ship is SOOOO big! Have fun!

  3. I have been on a cruise with a friend who gets very sea sick.  She was fine with taking an over-the-counter medication.  I used to get sea sick as well on little boats, but I've never had any problems on a cruise.  As for the activities, regardless where you decide on going and on which cruise line, there will be plenty to keep you busy.  Look at several different cruise lines and itineraries to find one that interests you the most.  It's important that you choose the cruise that best suits all of your needs and interests.

  4. Sea...sickness can be controlled with a patch of Dramamine. See your doctor for a prescription. Also, most modern ships use computer controlled stabilizers on the keel to level off the ship during big swells. Book a cabin in the middle of the ship to minimize the feeling of swells.

Sightseeing can be done through the ship and its organized tours. It costs extra but what else is new? Check the rates before you go with the online brochure at the website of your cruise line.

  5. We were on Norwegian Cruise to Bahamas about 2 months ago.  The ship was huge and had lots of activities.  Try to get a room mid ship and not to close to the stairs, least amount of rocking.  Pickup some motion sickness pills before you go.

    Have fun

  6. I was on a Caribbean cruise with my family, and my mom and brother both have sea sickness, but they used the patch and we had a cabin in the middle of the ship and it reduces the  wave motion that you feel

Be sure to pack a camera :P

  7. YES I have been on three (3) cruises in Europe.  The first was a 12 day Western Mediterranean (France, Italy, Greece, Turkey); the second was a 14 day Baltic (Germany, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Eastonia, Poland, Finland); and the third was a 12 day Western Mediterranean (Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Gibralter, Canary Islands).  The Med cruises left out of Barcelona and the Baltic out of the UK.

I my opinion the best of these three cruises was the first because we had port stops in Florence/Pisa and saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  Then we stopped in Naples and saw Pompeii among other things.  Then we stopped in Rome and saw the Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, and the Coliseum. We had a stop on Athens and saw the Acropolis.  And then had a stop in Turkey and went to the Biblical city of Ephesus. (that for me was chilling).  And finally we stopped at 2 very beautiful Greek Isles, Santorini and Mykonos.  So this cruise was full of history and historical places.

We took this cruise on the Royal Caribbean ship Brilliance of the Seas and I highly recommend this itinerary, ship and cruise line for you.   http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruis...

We took this cruise in October which is a great time because the weather is not so hot and there are somewhat fewer tourists.  Royal Caribbean ships will always have the most things to do on ship.

If you are looking for a Eastern Med cruise there are several cruise lines to choose from and also a variety of itineraries, some 7 days and others about 12 days.  My recommendation is do the longer cruise and see more on one trip.  Also pay attention to the itineraries because they are not all the same and some cruises are one way while others are round trip.  All of the cruises will offer you a day in the port to tour and/or sightsee and shop.

On our next cruise we departed from Dover, England on a Celebrity ship, the Constellation. This cruise was nice and offered a lot of tours about history and cultures of the countries.  We did this cruise in mid-May and we were fortunate not to have cold weather because  in many of these countries it can be cold until the summer.  The best time to do a Baltic cruise for warm weather is the summer.

And then our cruise to the Western Med was nice in terms of weather and scenery but not as exciting from a historical perspective.  There was a lot of Spanish history as we had 3 port stops in Spain and it was certainly great to see Gibraltar and the Canary Islands.  We did this cruise on a Norwegian ship and it was OK but I prefer Celebrity and Royal Caribbean to NCL.

There are several cruise lines to choose from that include some of the port stops we did on this cruise.  So, again, you have to choose your itinerary carefully to be sure that the cruise goes where you want to go.

You are correct to start looking for a cruise for next year right now because the cruise lines give the very best prices for early bookings a year or more in advance.  They also have specials that you should look for.

Cruising on a ship is nowhere near like being on a regular boat or ferry.  The ships are so big that the motion of the ocean does not affect them that much.  In addition, the ships have automatic stabilizer that deploy like wings under water to keep the ship from rocking side to side and they ship are so long 850 to almost 1,000 feet, that there is very little back to front motion.  We did not have rough water on any of our cruises and they were very smooth.

  8. I haven't been on a European cruise, but i have been on other cruises. You wont get sea sick, the cruise boats are like hotels, and sometimes you forget your on a boat. Also most ports you have a lot of time to spare. What i found was booking an excursion in advanced for each port. After or before each excursion we had time to see the city.

Hope this is helpful. P,S, Take holland america, they are really accommodating for the elderly and you wont have annoying kids running around everywhere. Very friendly, but a little pricy.
