  1. Anytime is a good time to cruise!

I went on Carnival this past summer and had an awesome time. I didn't go on the same ship as you but I went on the Valor.

Key West is NOT boring. You can walk through the town, lots of kool shops to go into. Lots of restaurants also. I loved key west!

I'm sure you will enjoy your cruise! Happy Cruising!

  2. Down in Calica it's always warm so it doesn't matter that its December.  Key West won't be but you can check the average temperature in Dec in Key West.  You never know.

Carnival is a great cruiseline.  There are a lot of things to do, it's a cheaper one.  It doesn't have as much pampering as Royal Carib but it's one of my favorite b/c I like the party style they work hard to create.  And there are tons of things to do on the ship.  Sensation is one of the smaller boats but I've found the service to be better on the smaller boats.  I took a cruise on the Inspiration and actually preferred the layout of that ship to the bigger Destiny.  The pool deck was flat (whereas teh Destiny is tiered) which allowed the waitstaff to move around more easily and therefore was around to take drink orders.  Key West is rather boring.  Very calm city.  Lots of quaint shops.  If you are hyperactive, book a shore excursion there that gets you out on the water.  Consider swimming wtih dolphins.

The Carnival Website lets you view the shore excursions offered at each port.  Of course, the Sensation isn't listed as going to those destinations.  Did you mean THIS december b/c if its not for a couple years hold off on the excitement.  But you can check out the ports of call by looking up another ship--like the Fascination.  Then you can click Calica to read a bit about Calica.  Or click Shore Excursions to read about those.  it has great snorkeling there but look for an excursion rated Level 2-3 people (that judges how active it is but its a picture of 2 people looking like they are crossing a crosswalk).  If you are looking to expend that energy, I'd recommend taking a high energy excursion.

Calica is right below Cozumel and is located here

Also check out www.cruisecritic.com.  That is the best site for reviews from people who just got off the ship.  It can tell you exactly what shore excursion they took and what they thought of it to prepare you.

    I also recommend

    www.cruisemates.com

    www.cruisereviews.com

Good luck and you'll have a great time.  The teens have lots to do on that ship--they might not wish to participate in all of the teen activities offered but by signing up when you first get on the ship with Camp Carnival's teen division you'll know how to meet your peers and know when the teens will have movies, the disco, or other activities scheduled.
