Cruise holidays ..?

Question

Excuse my ignorance, but if you go on a cruise holiday , do you ever get a chance to get off the ship and see the countries you are in?

I have no intention of going on a cruise, I am just curious.

Yes, the cruise stops in various ports to allow you time to explore that country.

This isnt a simple yes and no answer since the cruises came in a varity of forms but as a general rule most cruises have port stops and you arent required to be on the ship during theese. There are cruises to nowwhere such as cunards QM2 trans atlantic cruises but theese are exceptions. Most cruises tends to have severel port of calls during a weeks cruise and that its part of the fun.

But if you realy want to "see" the country by staying for longer periods your choise is much more limited since the ships only goes from a port so often and the cruise liners tend to sell cruises with fixed length only.

So my suggestion is that cruise is a great option if you want to get a taste of an cruise area or do a port for a day but a not so good one if youre the seing the country for a long time type. Johan

yes, depends on the lengh of  the trip. You should know before you buy the tickets, all the ships have an itenary. They let you know how long and when you are going to be getting off the ship.

Yes, you always have the option to get off ... unless it's a "cruise to nowhere" where they just go out into international waters so people can gamble.
