Cruise instead of air for Cancun vacation from Florida?

We would like to know if anyone has info on doing a cruise but staying in Cancun for 2 weeks and cruising back. Just heard air prices for luggage going up again, that $ would be more fun to use on a ship.

  1. SF - I have a couple of questions I'd like to ask as well. Could you e-mail me here pls. Thx!

  2. First of all, there are no cruises that go to Cancun.  The closest cruise ship stop is about an hour south of there at Calica.  Secondly, I imagine it would take some juggling if you were able to convince a cruise company to allow you to disembark from one scheduled cruise and re-embark onto another 2 weeks later.  I suppose you could call or email their sales departments to find out, but it sounds like a paperwork nightmare to me.  Living right next to this cruise dock south of Cancun, I know we can't board the ship here and return here, though that would be a fun way to get to the states and back.

  3. HMMM...I tried looking for you, but couldn't really find anything. I don't think there are cruises that just go to Cancun and then let you off for two weeks and then cruise back. I know personally there aren't any ports in Cancun that house a ship that big. I think the closest is Playa Del Carmen and I'm not even sure if they have a port that big or Cozumel. Regardless you would have to take a boat to actual Cancun. There are cruise ships that dock by Cancun, but it's what they call a tender port and have to just "anchor" out at sea and then take people by boat to a small port south of Cancun (about 20 mins.). Most of the cruises just stop for a day in Cancun then go to the next leg of the trip. Honestly, if you look at Funjet or Apple Vacations websites I seen the other day they had a round-trip air ticket for $307 to Cancun. I really think, in the long run it would be cheaper to fly. Personally I go to a actual travel agency (brick and mortar style not online) and can get two weeks all-inclusive, air, and hotel for around $1600-$2200 depending on the hotel. It would be better I think to try something like that. That way you would also have transfer from airport to the hotel. Instead of spending prob. $100 to get to the hotel. But, if you want check out Royal Caribbean or Carnival's website and they have a telephone number...call and ask if you can get a cruise there and back, but I don't think they do that. There just aren't enough people for them to take that big of a boat to just Cancun for two weeks and like I mentioned Cancun doesn't have a port that the ship can dock in like in Miami, Galveston Tx, Louisiana.  Hope I was of some help to you.  Good Luck in your decision. Cancun is beautiful!

  4. I think Cozumel is the closest you are going to get to Cancun. I prefer Cozumel or Playa de carmen over Cancun. If you do decide to jump ship and stay, you can stay in cozumel or take a ferry and stay in Playa De Carmen. Those are both nice places.

Personally, I would think flying is still cheaper than a cruise. If the luggage price is an issue, pack light. You don't need much there. I am a woman and can manage to pack light. I buy my toiletries there at walmart or chedraui (mexican version of walmart), I pack 2-3 shirts, shorts and bathing suits. I do laundry at the hotel. I wear my hair natural (too humid to straighten).  Even if luggage prices go up, It's still cheaper than a hotel.?
