  1. It is a formal occasion. Wear a cocktail dress or a long gown.

  2. sumthing formal - gown or such

    have fun!

  3. this is a formal occasion and the dressier the better,  I love the formal nights so I try to go all out and even get my hair done at the spa (you have to make an appointment for this as soon as you get on the ship)  there will be plenty of photo ops set up that night to so you can try to get a good pic.

either way it is important to remember you will have to eat in what you wear so keep this in mind, and not too prom like but more elegant and classy.

  4. Something elegant....like what you would wear to a nice formal wedding reception.

  5. The captain's dinner is a formal night.  Here are the dress codes from some of the more popular cruise lines ...

    CARNIVAL

Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. Formal Wear: tuxedo (optional); suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks; evening gown; cocktail dress; pantsuit Casual Resort Wear: sport shirts and slacks; dresses; skirts; pantsuit NOTE: Shorts, t-shirts and bathing attire are not permitted in the Dining Room during dinner.

Evening dress falls into two distinct categories; Formal or Smart Casual. Smart Casual can be defined as slacks and sports shirt or sweater for men and skirt or trousers and sweater or blouse for women. T-shirts, swimsuits, tank tops and shorts are not allowed in the restaurants or public areas during the evening hours. On festive Formal evenings, ladies usually wear a cocktail dress or gown and gentlemen usually wear a suit and tie or tuxedo. There are approximately two formal nights per week.

    DISNEY

    On 7-night cruises:

        * First night: cruise casual — no shorts, swimwear or tank tops

        * Three additional "cruise casual" nights — no shorts, swimwear or tank tops

        * One pirate or tropical night (deck party)

        * One formal and one semi-formal night — formal wear for men: tuxedo or suit; for women: gown or dress; semi-formal wear for men: suit/jacket; for women: dress or pantsuit.

Norwegian Cruise Line only has optional formal nights.

       • Evening gowns and cocktail dresses for ladies

       • Tuxedo, slacks with dinner jackets, or suits for men

    ROYAL CARIBBEAN

There are three distinct types of evenings onboard: casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these nights are:

Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women

Smart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women

Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women

A gentleman's choice for casual nights includes a sport shirt and slacks, while women will be comfortable in a pants suit, skirt and blouse, or casual dress.

On informal nights, men are requested to wear a jacket, shirt and tie, while women may want to wear a suit or dress.

For the formal nights, including the Captain's Welcome Aboard Cocktail Party, dinner on the second night, and the Captain's Farewell Dinner held the next-to-last night of the cruise; both men and women may prefer more dressy attire, such as an evening gown for women and a tuxedo or dress suit for men.

  6. I would dress according to the attire for dinner in the dining room that night.

  7. Captains dinners are normally held on 'formal night', so an evening gown/dress is appropriate.

    Cruise Ship Staff

    Enjoy your cruise:-)

  8. depends somewhat on the ship. some of stricter dress codes.  a basic black dress, preferably one that does not wrinkle and some accessories to dress up, would be perfect.  a black business suit and a glittery/sequin sort of camisole under it is perfectly acceptable too.  you will see some full length gowns but most will wear shorter cocktail dresses.  you will see bridesmaids dresses recycled.  it's just dinner .. and you will probably want to change after dinner and get comfortable .  some people do wear their formal clothing to the shows / casinos.  either is accepable. wear something comfortable and do not worry about spending a few hundred bucks to get an expensive dress.  i bet you have something in your closet already or can find something at a clearance / reasonably priced store in the mall.

  9. If you are going on a 7-day cruise there will be two formals dress nights9they are not REQUIRED, but optional) and one of those the captain will probably dine in/at one of the dinner seatings.  BUT, the captain will sit at a special table for 10 or 12 people and the rest of the 400 or so people in the room will not even know he is there or recognize him.  So you can dress formal as most people do (men in a tux or suit and ladies in a gown or party dress (any color)) but just don't think the captain will notice what you wear or even see you.  The staff will pick the people who sit at the Captain's table and they are usually people who have cruised many times or something.
