  1. You will only be charged your minutes used.  However your friend is in for a big surprise or shock I should say.  We speak from experience.  We used our Blackberry everyday on board for both voice and receiving and sending emails. When we got the bill two months later it was over $500.00

  2. Tim and Diane are correct. My sister-in-law went on a Western Caribbean Carnival Cruise and she stayed on the phone constantly with her fiance. When the next phone bill came out she darn near had heart failure. Over $4,500 in charges. Sure, Carnival has cell towers on there ships and they also use signal from some of those 3rd world countries out there, and you can end up with some serious phone bills depending on how long you stay on that phone. My advice...leave that thing turned off while you are at sea.

  3. does texting cost more money from a cruise ship or a different country, like the bahamas? or even florida?

  4. check with the company that you're with, they will give you all the rates for using cellphones abroad. You shouldn't have to pay anything for receiving calls
