Cruise ship host/ess information?

I need to do a project on a career in the tourism industry and I chose to be a cruise ship hostess. I have the following headings which I please need the information supplied for -just basic sentences explaining briefly would be appreciated I can build from there. Thank you!

-Under what conditions is the job performed?

-Physical ad mental abilities required to do the job?

-Training and length of it?

-Employment opportunities?

-Challenges? opportunities?

First of all I am not sure what position on the cruise ship you are referring to (and you probably do not either).  I have been on many cruises and never encountered a person called a hostess.  The positions that I know, based on the cruises I have done, are:

-Cruise Director

-Purser

-Wine Steward

-Cabin Steward

-Waiter

-Assistant Waiter

-Head Waiter

-MatreD

-Bartender

The position that I think would be closest to what you are interested in is probably the Cruise Director, or someone on the cruise director's staff.  That person is the one who organizes and manages activities for passengers on the ship.

What you need to do is go to the cruise line web sites and look for information about positions.  Each of the web sites that I have listed below will have a link to jobs, employment or some such word that tells you about the positions they have and the requirements for them.  

Here's some information for you. Some of the web sites will have jobs that the cruise lines are trying currently to fill. With these sites you will be talking directly to the cruise line and not a jobs agency.

Another thing to do is to contact the concession that run the shops on the ships like the souvenir, gift and clothing shops. Below are links for you.
