Question:

Cruise ship: room service tips?

I understand about leaving big tips at the end of the cruise for everyone and the guidelines with that. But what if we order room service, should I give a tip right there?

If I need to do it on the spot (maybe I would have a different room service person later, so I'd have to tip each time?) should it be $5?

There will just be two of us. I'd rather stay in the room and eat breakfast in the mornings.

  1. The person who brings you food from room service is not the same person who is in charge of keeping your room clean. The tips you pay at the end of the cruise are not shared with room service personnel.  I tip $1 for an item or two and about $3 for a lunch or breakfast. You will get better service next time.

  2. Your tips are included with your trip that you paid for.  In fact they tell you not to tip anyone at all.  I did tip the one's who cleaned our rooms everyday and made those cute elephants and other animals out of the towels.  I tipped the to 60.00 dollars to split, so 30.00 a piece at the end of the cruise on the last day.

  3. Most of the room service menus for breakfast are just buns, cold cereal no hot breakfast items. coffee, tea. juice

I would tip each time  about $2-3. depending on the order...if just coffee the less

  4. On Carnival there is little need to give cash at all if you want to adjust you tips you can do this at the end to give more to a specific person or less but I have never given less, they all do more than their part to make the vacation awesome.

as far as the room service goes they are not in the tips charged to the account so cash would be fine for them, the other person they ask a cash tip for is the Matre de, however this is only customary if you make a request to him

  5. one thing I must say is room service is free use it and use it often...but tip a buck or two every time..

  6. People who order room service generally tip $1 or $2 each time.  You are correct, you tip each time as the next time it could be someone different.

Because I don't like to plan my breakfast the night before, I just go to the buffet and bring what I want to eat back to my cabin.  This service is free.

  7. We order room service at breakfast all the time on cruise ships and usually keep some ones for tipping in the safe.  I usually tip between $1 and $2 for room service depending upon how much I order and the person has to carry.  Occasionally I tip more.

We like to order breakfast and eat on the balcony and skip all of the hassle trying to find a seat in the breakfast buffet.
