Cruise stops in Cozumel for 8 hours; see Cozumel or go to Playa del Carmen?

Question

It's three college roommates (now in our 40s). One has been to Playa many times and is lobbying to return. I'm inclined to rent a jeep and see both sides of Cozumel (and do some snorkeling and swimming).

If I could get to Xel-Ha and Playa in the time we had, I'd be more inclined to go.

Any thoughts?

it really depends what you want, in playa car  the 5 av is full with restaurants, bars all not very fancy and nice, cozumel is good for snorkeling but you have to take a boat and it will consume time,, xel ha is kind of far so i will leave it for some other trip.

Beaches in both cozumel and playa del carmen are smoooth
