Cruise the med?

Question

we are going on a cruise and the itinery is (trapani) sicily (naples)italy (ajaccio)corsica (toulon)france (barcelona) spain can anyone tell me which of these destinations you can you just get off the boat and go yourself and which ones would it be better to go on the trips with thomsons

I have been to two of the ports that you will visit, Naples and Barcelona.  In naples we toured Pompeii as well as an olive and lemon farm.  The Pompeii tour and those going to other places can probably be had on the ships dock.  I know that Pompeii is a long distance by bus from the port.

In Barcelona we stayed a night for two different cruises and it is very easy to tour Barcelona on your own as the port is right next to the city a short taxi ride from the downtown area (across a bridge ... you cannot easily walk).  You can see much just walking after  a taxi dropoff, or have the taxi pause for a short time while you take pictures at the Gaudi church and thendrop you on the Rambles.  Do watch out in Barcelona for pickpockets and guard your valuables.

Barcelona you can do yourself. You can do Naples on your own if you only want to see the city, but consider an excursion to Pompeii if that interests you. Ajaccio itself is not a big town: I would take an excursion to see the Corsican countryside which is very mountainous.

I've not been to Trapani but they may offer an excursion to Palermo which is bigger. Not been to Toulon either, so I don't know.

Def visit Ajaccio, I cant stress enough how beautiful it is, the drive up the mountains is awesome although somewhat scary as they are tiny roads, but the beauty of Lake Tolla is worth it all, its so gorgeous there. Barcelona is also a beautiful city, I cruised the MEd 3 years ago with Thompson and I had a wonderful time, the food was sensational on board. Unsure who you are going with, but you shud have fun, I havent been to Toulon or Sicily, but I def recomment you see Lake Tolla and Ajaccio. Have fun.
