Question:

Cruise to canada, on carnival victory

I am making a decision on a cruise to canada, nova scotia, new brunswick, in 2 weeks. has anyone experienced travel in august in this area-is it warm enough to swim in the pools on the ship? Is there anything of interest (for kids-8&11) to do at the port stops? Does the victory have a lot of formal dining-do you need to be seated with other people at every meal? We wanted to eat very casual attire.

  1. I went on this EXACT cruise in Aug 2006.. same ship, same ports... it was very good! The pools were cold (at least for me) - though, lots of kids were in them all the time. There is a channel on your TV in your room which shows information like outside temp, pool temps... stuff like that... the pool never changed for the 5 days... it was 71 degrees.... which is too cold for me. The outside temps in Canada were 70 degrees during the day. Overall, a nice trip.

  2. temp will be about 20-25C at sea.  If pool is heated no probs but a "natural non-heated pool" maybe a bit chilly. .    both the halifax harbour and the st johns harbour areas have lots of shops and other attractions..

In St John suggest magnetic hill or reversing falls tour for the kids.. mine liked that. Halifax.. fort lousiberg was pretty interesting/   Peggy's Cove is okay and scenic for adults but kids find it kinda boring.

  3. The Victory has a Magradome (big glass retractable roof) over the rear pool, so it is always swim weather.  There are lots of activities for the kids on board, as far as the ports - not so much...

Two formal nights, but you have several casual dining options for formal night if you don't want to dress, from the Bistro, to the Buffet, to Pizza or Room Service.
