Question:

Cruise with a 1 year old?

My mother is taking us(my family & brother's family) on a cruise. We will be going to Jamaica, Grand Cayman's and Cozumel. I know that they started requiring passports, does my 1 year old need one?

And will he need any type of special shots or anything? Also do they allow strollers on the ship?

Any for all those who have taken little ones, any tips??

  1. I have a 13 month old and we returned from our cruise on 10/25.  It made it a lot easier with a passport for the baby, but no it is not required.  If you decide on no passport, then you need an original birthcertificate.   No, special shots are needed and they do allow strollers.

  2. Each of my sons started cruising around while they were infants.  You can have a very enjoyable cruise if you keep a few things in mind.

If you have cruised before, do not expect it to be the same experience as without kids.  You will not be able to do things on your schedule, but on your child's, i.e. feeding and nap times, along with fussy periods that most babies have.

Also, a stroller is a must.  I usually bring umbrella strollers because they are easy to maneuver in crowds.

There are not many shore excursions that were meant for kids, especially 1 year old babies, so we usually do not take any.  Also, bringing a baby seat and trying to fit it in a cab is a drag, so we don't usually go ashore where we have to take a taxi.

If possible, hire a babysitter for when you really want some adult time.  The prices and rules differ from line to line, so make sure you find out in advance and book as soon as you board.  This is what really made our vactations-the babysitters have all been great and we had some down time a couple hours every evening.

  3. try to contact the cruise line you are going through and ask or if went through a travel agent they should be able to find out for you about all  that but go to the cruise line site and click on contact us and send them an email asking them these questions and they should get back to you...and on the passport thing yes bcuz of goin out of states they have to have proof that thats your child and your not bringing it back hahaha.. shots you should be good if your child is all caught up with there shots up to there age theya re now....but if the child gets sick easy then you should go to the Dr and ask if there is anythin you can give to the child for there amunie system to keep up!!! Im not sure on any of this so check with sowmone that does thsi would be my thoughts with a child!!! I am going to those area in March not sure what line yet either royal caribbean or carnival whena re you goin?? if before me  let me know how u liked it!!!!

  4. You need to make sure (with a cruise or not) that the child has all the shots.  With an infant all you will need is a birth certificate along with your ID.  Tip:  Keep them overly entertained, they get really really restless...fast.  Just keep feeding them too, bring lots of snacks.  They do allow stollers.  They also allow car seats.  Just let the airline know that your bringing them.  They'll give you prefered seating on the plane.  Also, ask her pedi for the flu (or seasonal, depends on what part of country you are) shot.  Cruises are breeding grounds for viruses, bacteria, strange strans of illnesses.  So they'll be covered.

  5. yes, youre allowed stollers. also., ive been to the same
