I asked a similar question like this but I forgot to mention if the same method can be used for cruiser type motorcycles like the honda rebel or suzuki GZ250, if your coming to a stop sign or red light can you just hold down the clutch and shift down to 1st gear instead of having to shift it to neutral on a cruiser motorcycle?

  1. "All" bikes are pretty much the same.

  2. i often shift down from 3rd to 1st by holding the clutch down and skipping 2nd when riding around the neighborhood.... ease on the clutch and give it a little gas

    best regards

  3. I really don't understand your question??? of course you can get to a light and just hold in the clutch. you don't have to put it in neutral ever.... even when you turn it off and park it. it's just easy on your wrist if you take it outta gear.

in fact when you get to a light, and someone comes up behind you and doesn't stop (or stop in time) and you don't have it in gear.... ouch. but if it's in gear, you could quickly get out of the way. or at least give yourself a fighting chance. but if there is already a car behind you stopped, go ahead and take it out of gear....

and yes you can shift from any gear into 1st as you are coming to a stop... such as 4th to 1st... without letting the clutch out in each gear.... but i wouldn't recommend it... i always use the engine to help brake my bike. I have over 20K on my warrior and still have more than half my brake pads left... and my clutch is fine too.

    good luck.
