Going to Cozumel, Ocho Rios, Jamacia, & Grand Caymen.

Can I do the stingray city in Gran Caymen? What's good in Jamacia? Should relax in Cozumel? What's your suggestion?

  1. Excursions are listed on their website and it rates how physically demanding things are.  I have been on the stingray tour your speaking of and I don't think you will have any problem.  You didn't say when your going but consider the heat.  With this trip you will all be escorted to buses then you will take a bus ride 15 - 20 min (?) to the dock to pick up the boat.  Ours was 2 decks.  Bring sun screen cause we didn't and they will charge you crazy fee for a squirt. It is a really nice trip out to sea about 2 miles, takes maybe 10 - 15 minutes then you will pull up to the sandbar where you will get out of boat.  You will be in about waist deep give or take of water.  It is beautiful and the water is great.  It is a lot of fun.  I think the only issue you will have is the heat and maybe motion sickness on board the boat that takes you over but I don't think so cause they move at a pretty good rate so there isn't a lot of rolling.  Congrats on both the baby and a great trip your about to take.  Enjoy! -- Oh I don't get off the ship anymore in Jamaica it is beautiful but the people are way to aggressive.  I love Cozumel.  I usually go to free beach or pay beach and snorkel on my own.  I love it the people are very nice.  The water is stunning!

  2. I've been to those ports several times.  Being pregnant shouldn't limit your excursions, except for very active ones [e.g. you don't want to climb Dunns River Falls in OR - although there is a wooden walkway up the side of the falls that you could do, if you want to see the falls].

The stingrays in Cayman is the "must-do" activity there.  You can easily do it and can easily do it on your own [i.e. not with a ship excursion].  You go out on a boat to a very shallow sandbar [about waist deep] and the stingrays come up to you to be fed.  It's a neat experience and not at all dangerous.  Or you could just hang out at Seven Mile Beach - take a cab or public bus.

In OR, I wouldn't recommend going out on your own.  The people there are EXTREMELY aggressive.  One thing you could do - and it would be very relaxing - is to walk over to Island Village/Margaritaville.  It's literally a five-minute walk, there is controlled access and they don't allow peddlars on the beach.  There is a small pool, hot tub and small beach at M'ville and there are shops that simulate Jamaican culture.  Everyone says that you "must" do DRF, and it is very pretty, but, again, you can't climb it.  The ship will have an excursion that goes there by boat and you could just relax on the beach and walk partway up the boardwalk.  [Don't go all the way to the "exit" or you'll be bombarded by vendors selling junk.]

Coz is another port that's very easy to do on your own.  You can get a cab down to Chankanaab Park and just relax, or you can wander around downtown [go back from the main street a bit to see some interesting shops] and shop.  There is a lot of "hard sell" here, too, but not like in OR.

The big thing to remember if you go out on your own is to BE SURE to get back to the ship on time - they will not wait for you if you are late unless you are on a ship's tour.  Don't wait until the last minute to head back, especially in Cayman.  There you have to take a tender from port back to the ship and there will be long lines for the last tenders.

For lots of useful info about ports - recommendations and warnings - go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call", then your port.

Have a great cruise and congratulations/good luck with your baby.  You're in for a whole new adventure!!

  3. Stingray should be okay for you. Just try not to do any highly active events. And sure, you could relax in Cozumel. For Jamaica, maybe you can to a Jeep tour or something

  4. If your cruise is already booked, you should be able to go to the cruise line's website and look up all the excursions offered.

They each tell you how long the excursion is, the type of activity and that sort of information.

I would assume you could do some of the less stressful events, such as stingray city and other walking tours.

I guess it all depends on how active you are and your overall health. I mean, if a doctor tells you not to be out jogging or doing other things, then I would follow his/her recommendations.

Just go to the beaches and relax and maybe walk around and do a little shopping and sightseeing.

Cozumel has a huge shopping area that you can easily walk around (with a short taxi ride from the cruise port)

Jamaica also has shopping and some beautiful beaches.

From the sounds of your stops, I would guess you are traveling on a Royal Caribbean ship, maybe the Liberty of the Seas?

If so, you will find lots of activities on the ship to keep you busy as well, without even having to break a sweat!!!!

    Good luck and have fun!
