Question:

Cruising in the Canaries?

went on a mediteranean cruise in May 2007 ( 1st one ) and thoroughly enjoyed it, weather was good and seas quite calm . I would like to do it again and I am considering a cruise around the Canaries in Jan 2008, anyone have any experiences of this ?.

I know the weather is generally good all year round in that area, I am just a bit concerned about the sea conditions, as I am not the best sailor !

  1. yeh we went hmm the weather though was fine in summer but its a bit like spain and that its cold in the winter , so best time to go is between may-sept

  2. Winter time I'm afraid in the area.  Could encounter rain and high winds until about the end of month start of February.

  3. we usually go in September, going round the med this time, but yes been to the canaries at the same time of year, and while im OK on the ship anyway whatever weather,we didn't have problem, plain sailing as the saying goes..never been in Jan,but i take it you're going from Southampton, you haven't stated. if so the main concern is the bay of Biscay, renown for its rough seas, due to the low continental shelf, meeting deep Atlantic waters, once you're over this i would say you will be fine, but when we went over it last year,it was like a mill pond..don't worry, enjoy?

  4. I did a Canaries cruise a couple of years ago, the weather is fine all year but it does get cold in the evenings (especially if you are at sea) so take something warm.  When we docked in Lanzarote the ship was too big for the port so we went ashore in tenders (lifeboats!) - that was the only rough sea we had and I was fine even on that.  Have a great time!!
