Cruising on Sunday....?

I can't just not go....if they do not cancel the cruise and I just don't go, I will not get a refund.....that wasn't my question...

We got caught in the Gulf in 2005 between Tropical Storm Cindy and Hurricane Dennis while sailing Royal Caribbean.

They changed our itinerary and we had to skip Grand Cayman.  Grand Cayman is a tender port so any type of rough weather may cause this stop to be skipped.

The captain headed out of the storm's way and we docked in Progresso, Mexico.  It was rough the night we had to outrun the storms.  It was ok, we were glad to be safe and enjoy most of our cruise but were bummed to miss Grand Cayman.  

Even if the cruise proceeds, your shore excursions could be impacted if there is bad weather.  

It is pretty late in the year for a tropical storm/hurricane...the high season runs from July to November.

The cruise will NOT be cancelled. It may be rerouted, but not cancelled.

The cruise should notify you if they cancel.  But go ahead and call right before you leave to double check everything.

Usually when at storm comes along, the cruise will still go out to sea but take a different route.  And you also might get to see a different part of some islands depending on the storm and where they have to go.

The advantage of a cruise ship over a land based hotel is that the cruise ship can move.  If a tropical storm is headed toward the port your ship is scheduled to go to, your ship will either stay out to sea or change ports.  Ever see a land based hotel move to a better location because of bad weather?

The bottom line is, you will still be on a cruise.  You might not get to go where you were originally scheduled to go because of the weather, but at least you will be somewhere else enjoying yourself where the weather is nice, while the people staying in land based hotels at the port where the storm is are sitting in their rooms watching TV.  And if that sounds like fun, you can do that too while you are on the cruise.  The difference is, you have more options because the ship avoided the storm.

A spokesman for Carnival Cruise Lines has announced that Tropical Storm Olga has prompted an itinerary change for Carnival Conquest. Conquest will forego its scheduled stop at Grand Cayman on Thursday, instead calling on Cozumel a day early. On Friday, when the ship was orginally slated to call on Cozumel, Conquest will visit Progreso. The ship's time in each port has also been revised and is as follows: Thursday in Cozumel (7 a.m.-5 p.m.), Friday in Progreso (9 a.m.-5 p.m.).

i've never experienced a hurricane in my country b4, but from news and what i've seen from some countries i would say don't go, but if you can get sound information on how Strong or less dangerous it would be then u can go

First it is a tropical storm NOT a hurricane, so chill out.  First and foremost the ship will try and go around it and possibly change itineraries.  You are the most safe on ship vs. being at a resort for any kind of tropical storm or hurricane.  Call your cruise line or travel agent and get the latest update, most of the time for a cruise line to cancel a sailing it has to be catastrophic like Katrina. i think you will be just fine.

I would not be worried about crusing around a hurricane or any storm. Unlike a regular destination vacation, where you are stuck in that town where the storm is headed, a cruise ship will always go around the storm to avoid any potential problems.  

Sure your destination and ports of call may change but they will not risk going through any storm.   Newer ships have stabilizers and ballasts to counter act the motion of the ocean to keep the ships level.

The only time a cruise ship will not sail is if the port of embarkation is hit with the storm.  If a storm hits the port of embarkation, let's say Tampa, Florida, and they cannot get the supplies in to the ship and cruise guests can't fly in because the airport is closed or the docks are damged.... then they may cancel the cruise.

But if you can get on the ship at the port of entry, the cruise ship WILL go. We are talking millions of dollars in losses if the ship cannot sail so they will go so they will do EVERYTHING they can to sail.  I was on a 7 day cruise out of Port Canaveral in August where there were tropical storms in the area of our cruise path, but the ship sailed around it and we had a great time. Don't worry.  Cruise lines exists to have happy customers, you will not have to worry about storms getting in your way.

Check your cruiseline's website and if there are weather advisories, cancellations or itinerary changes, it will appear in the very front page of the website.

Don't worry.. just kick back and enjoy the warm caribbean weather and have fun!

DO NOT be a no-show or cancel your cruise.  The ship will always steer away from the weather and even change the order of the port stops or add different ones to stay away from bad weather.  We were just in the Caymans and Jamaica last week and the weather was great; went to the beach and got in the water too..

I went on a cruise a couple years ago when a hurricane was at one of our ports on the day we were to stop there.  They just changed the order of port stops and we had great weather for the whole cruise.

Besides I just saw on the news today that that storm had petered out.
