  1. The salmon bake is in Juneau, in Skagway you could do the train but I have to admit it is over kill and a bit pricey. If you go to the only hotel in town (forgot the name) they offer van tours up to the Welcome to Alaska sign. The guides are insightful and it was nice to stop and take photos when you wanted to.

Ketchikan depending on the ages of the family the crabbing for Dungeness is a good time but so is the totem pole village for the younger.

  2. Check out cruiseaddicts.com or cruisecritics.com. They have lots of experience cruising.

  3. The train ride is nice. I did it with my family of six. Skagway and Ketchikan are great little towns with several shops. All in a walking distance from the ship. I do recommend you take the helicopter ride. It was expensive but the most amazing thing I have ever done. You land right on an ice glacior and get to walk around on it(totally safe). Then you land later on a snow field. It was beautiful. Dont know what cruise line but I was on Royal caribbean. Have fun>

  4. Go to the salmon bake.  It is a ton of fun and a great family activity.  I don't remeber which port it was in, but it was a great experience.  They bake/grill the fish right infront of you and you can walk down to the stream and watch the fish try to swim upstream.
