Crunchy icecream in rootbeer float

Why is it that there are always little crunchy pieces of icecream in the A&W rootbeer float?

Those are the best parts by the way. :)

  11. Probably cuz the ice cream is either frozen slowly, which forms crunchy ice crystals, or because the ice cream is thawed and then frozen, which forms crunchy ice crystals.

    You know Dippin Dots?  They're flash-frozen using liquid nitrogen, and that means they're extra creamy because they won't have any crunchy ice crystals.
