Crusaders are hoping to avoid wooden spoon against Wigan Warriors - Rugby League
The Crusaders are eager to write themselves off of the wooden spoon list as they march into their final Super League game against the second placed Wigan Warriors tonight, September 9.
The crisis-hit Crusaders are going through their last Super League experience which will keep them away from Super League games until 2014.This was followed in the wake of financial constraints which kept the club from moving ahead into the super league
games for the coming years. The franchise had to pull themselves out of Super League licensing process until 2014, a day prior to the Super League license announcement being made.
Wigans are also hoping to bag a win over Crusader tonight in order to march into the play-off campaign in good form which is Wigan coach, Michael Maguire’s foremost preference. Maguire will try their utmost to snatch away the Super League Leader’s trophy
from Warrington Wolves, who are just short of a single point.
While speaking about Wigans’ game plan, Maguire added, “The crowd tried to lift us at certain times against Warrington. They turned out in force and unfortunately we didn’t perform, so hopefully we can put on a big show for them. Our motivation is about
us, and playing how we’re capable of. How Crusaders play will be down to us.”
Crusaders are floating on the second last spot within the league hierarchy, whereas the bottom of the league is taken up by the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, which is meeting the Bradford Bulls tonight.
Crusaders who are already out of the next league games until 2014, are keen on missing the wooden spoon for the franchise.
However, Iestyn Harris of Crusader is expected to join in with the Warriors as assistant coach under their recently appointed director of rugby, Shaun Wane. Amongst others from Crusaders, Jordan James has also sealed a two-year deal with Salford City Reds.
This game is all the more important for Crusaders as they will play their last game as Crusaders under their departing coach Haris. Records reveal that Wigans have played five Super League games against the Crusaders but only once were they defeated 16-22
in 2009.
