Crusaders confirm their participation in Co-operative Championship
The Celtic Crusaders have confirmed today that they will be part of the Co-operative Championship, as they have withdrawn out of the Super League licence last month, to the shock of the Crusaders’ players and fans alike.
The crisis-hit Crusaders were pulled out of the Super League licensing process until 2015 games, which has led to an out flux of players and coaching staff to the other potential employers, which includes many players who have been taken onboard by Wakefield
Trinity Wildcats.
The 11th hour withdrawal by the Crusaders had led to the unexpected Super League licence for the Wakefield, who were not even near making through the process otherwise.
However, this led to many players from Crusaders joining the Wildcats. Sources have also confirmed that the Crusaders’ coach, Iestyn Harris will join Wigan Warriors as their assistant coach from 2012 onwards, after he winds up his two-year term with the
Crusaders, which started back in 2010.
However, the Crusaders intend to march into the Co-operative Championship despite not being part of the super league games.
In order to help the club regain its lost glory, the fans and supporters have initiated a campaign “Save the Cru” that is an attempt to financially help the club.
A rescue bid is underway by the chief executive of Crusaders, Rod Findlay, who confirmed that the process of purchase of the club has already begun.
The Crusaders’ fans have shown tremendous support all along their rough patch, and also intend to be part of the Crusaders’ new board.
Crusaders have relocated themselves to the Racecourse ground of the Wrexham for their future trainings, which was acquired in lieu of the support from Wrexham Council. There is a sports facility which was bought by the Glyndwr University, to provide for
the training ground for Crusaders.
While speaking about this all, Findlay added, “We have announced our intention to apply for a spot in the Championship for 2012.There have been over 4,000 expressions of support in a short space of time and that, along with backing from the business community,
has given us the confidence to press ahead.”
