Crusaders crush Chiefs by 34-16 in Super Rugby contest
The Crusaders have crushed the Chiefs by huge margin of 34-16 in Super Rugby clash played at Baypark Stadium in Mt Maunganui.
The Crusaders started off without Dan Carter but Richie McCaw was there to play his first match of the Super Rugby of this year. The Chiefs welcomed back their skipper Mils Muliaina in their defence line.
The chiefs had early blow in the match as Tanerau Latimer left the field in the third minute of the game. He received a powerful hit on his head by Crusaders’ Owen Franks. Shortly after that, the Crusaders took the early lead with the help of their defender
Dagg who produced a chance and Freuan scored the first try of the match. Berquist added another two points to the total on a conversion and Crusaders were leading the game by 7-0 after just 9 minutes.
Then there was a powerful comeback by the Chiefs as they repeated action replay scoring of the Crusaders and score was levelled during the 12th minute. Yet again, the Chiefs managed to score a penalty in the 13th minute and took a lead over the Crusaders.
It was the first and last time in the mach that equation was favouring the Chiefs with 10-7. After that, it was comparatively sluggish play from the Chiefs and Crusaders took the full advantage of their play.
The Crusaders came back strongly in the match and scored quick points as Maitland and Berquist scored try and penalty during the 16th and 17th minutes of the game. At the interval, the Crusaders were leading the game by 17-13. The Chiefs had done a good
job so far as they were trailing by little deficit.
The Chiefs looked under pressure from the start of the second half and chance was missed by Sonny Bill Williams. During the 5oth minute of the play there came a much waited moment as the All Blacks Skipper Richie McCaw was sent to the field. Ellis added
five points to the Saders’ total and celebrated the captain’s appearance in the Super Rugby.
Berquist had a good day today, he executed three conversions and two penalties for his side. The Crusaders won the match 34-16 as floodgate was opened for them during the last ten minutes. They are once again on top of the point’s tables.
