Crusaders expect Richie McCaw to be back in action against Stormers - Super Rugby News
The Crusaders are excited to see their skipper, Richie McCaw, scheduled to play in the semi-final clash against the Stormers on July 2, in Newlands, Cape Town.
Richie McCaw has remained very inconsistent with his fitness in the ongoing Super Rugby season and has missed a number of matches due to injuries. Crusaders assistant coach, Daryl Gibson, hoped that the veteran player would be fit and lead the side in the
upcoming clash against the Stormers.
McCaw joined his team late in the round matches and has not played any match in the whole month of June due to a foot injury. Talking to the media, Gibson said that it seemed like McCaw had properly recovered from the old injury and would play the Super
Rugby semi-final.
Gibson went on to say, "We anticipate Richie will be back and he will lead the team. It's been one of those seasons where he have had to juggle guys all year. It is a pure luxury in this competition to be able to put out a close to full strength team at
this time of year. Kieran, too, is expected to be fit."
Gibson further said that McCaw’s return to the side would boost the confidence of the other players. He also appreciated the services of the medical staff, which has been working hard with Richie McCaw’s injury.
Gibson further said that Kieran Read was having a good season in the current championship and Crusaders really need him in the semi-final. He added that, “We'd love Kieran to play. He's a big man and in these sorts of games, where it's going to be such a
big, physical contest, you need your big stars playing.”
The Crusaders will take on the Stormers in the second semi-final of Super Rugby championship on July 2, in Cape Town. If they get back their experienced players by then, they will enhance their chances of winning the match. The Crusaders won their previous
game against the Stormers in the round matches and they are hopeful of repeating the same performance.
